About us:
Our Mission

Amistad Preschool provides holistic child care + developmentally appropriate early learning experiences (in a home setting) for children ages 2-5.
We strive to meet each child’s unique developmental needs by combining an environment rich in learning opportunities with a respectful and warm teaching practice.
Our goal is to develop meaningful, collaborative relationships with the families we serve to ensure that each child that walks through our doors receives the support they need to reach their highest potential in all areas of their development.
Our Vision

We believe the best learning happens through uninterrupted play! Children who are closely acquainted with their environment are more likely to:
-
WONDER - Every great discovery begins with a great question: "Why are snails slimy?" "What will happen if I mix the yellow paint with the red paint?" "How do plants grow?" Our goal is to foster children's existing curiosity and imagination.
-
EXPERIMENT - Once the curiosity seed is planted, it is our responsibility to "set the stage" for learning. Whether it's setting out magnifying glasses to closely examine a ladybug's spots or baking soda and vinegar to explore chemical reactions, our teachers are committed to providing useful tools for the children to conduct their own research.
-
DISCOVER - Our favorite part! We love to see the excitement in our young friends' eyes when they've "figured something out". This is especially satisfying for them when they have been fully immersed and involved in the learning process.
Our Values

Our program abides by the Code of Ethical Conduct for Educators established by the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children). Our values are directly linked to the core values of the Code of Ethics and they are as follow:
-
Children are competent learners and contributors
In our inclusive space, everyone's unique abilities are recognized and celebrated!
-
It takes a village...
A child's support system is strengthened when parents and teachers communicate closely and work as a team to ensure the child's needs are being met.
-
We recognize, respect and celebrate each child’s language, culture and family traditions
Children begin forming knowledge of their social identities early in life. Our role as educators is to foster their development of positive social identities by ensuring their sense of individuality is recognized, respected and celebrated.
-
Teachers are facilitators in the learning process
Our staff is responsible for fostering wonder and curiosity. We aim to ask open-ended questions like, “What do you notice?” or “What do you think will happen if…?” rather than limiting yes or no questions.
-
Actions speak louder than words
We understand that children learn from what is modeled to them, and we are committed to modeling respectful, friendly and supportive interactions.
-
Professional Development is an ongoing process
New research is continually being conducted in the Childhood Development and Early Education fields. For this reason, our staff regularly attend Early Childhood Education workshops and conferences.
